About this site & me
Hi, I am Jonas. What's up :)?
Here is my story:
I had a fairly happy childhood in a small suburb in Western Germany. After school I studied business. I didn't really know what I wanted to do at the time but it seemed sensible. I thought it would be cool to be a consultant and earn a lot of money. I wore business shirts and styled my hair in a creepy way to the back.
After my master I went backpacking in South America and that changed things.
Studying business and growing up in a western capitalist society, that innate social norm was that you need to get rich to be happy.
Until I went travelling, I never questioned that narrative.
What happened?
In short: I experienced people in other countries like Colombia to be happier than me with less money.
So the narrative of "more money = more happiness" started to become cracks.
I started to think more critically about what other stories I "learned" about the world.
Questioning the socialisation that I grew up, I embarked on a journey to find out what a meaningful and joyful life is for me.
I started experimenting to find my place on this crazy big rock cruising through space.
The more I learned how the world works and the challenges we collectively face, the less I could motivate myself to keep on the path I was on.
I realised I have the privilege to work on solutions to the challenges.
I found meaning in working for social and environmental impact.
First by consulting sustainable startups in growth and online marketing and then growing a company focussed on systemic-change in the agricultural sector.
We are living in times of converging crises caused by endless, exponential economic growth, that does not transfer into human welfare or well-being. It's clear that we need to radically change the way we consume and live.
So this is what this page is about:
- explaining what is wrong
- proposing solutions on how to solve it
- helping with tools, practices and inspiration on how to move forward to live a meaningful and joyful life in changing times
I think the answer to the problems we face is not only an outside systemic shift, but a shift within ourselves.
- From seeing nature as an object to realising we are part of it (and we need to stop destroying it.)
- From putting our focus on logic and thinking to integrating feelings back into our ways of knowing.
- From overly celebrating masculine characteristics to integrating the divine feminine.
After 10 years of soul-searching, I am now building a 20 ha land-based community project to regenerate and rewild the land. We aim to live community-sufficient, have fun and positively impact the bioregion towards ecological and social regeneration.
Talking to (especially young) people, I see a lot of meaninglessness and hopelessness in the world.
But it doesn't have to be that way.
We can find meaning in restoring what we have degraded.
We can turn climate anxiety into joyful action towards a new system.
Join me on this journey of building a more meaningful and joyful life!
